In this 7-week series, students learn the fundamentals of Kundalini yoga, known as the Yoga of Awareness. In this class you will discover how to direct your attention, to tune into the subtle energetic aspects of your being, and to respond rather than react when confronted with challenges. Kundalini yoga is a technology that combines breath (pranayam), hand position (mudra), eye-focus (drishte), chanting (mantra), body locks (bhandas), and postures (asana) to balance the glandular system, strengthen the nervous system, expand lung capacity, and purify the blood. It brings balance to the body, mind, and soul.

Kundalini Yoga was brought to the West from India by Yogi Bhajan in the late 1960’s. Because it works quickly and powerfully, the practice quickly caught on. Kundalini Yoga is a yoga for householders, for people who have to cope with the daily challenges and stresses of holding jobs, raising families, and managing businesses. It is a path for everyone who wants the skills to cope successfully with the challenges of our times.

Meditation is a key aspect of this practice. Meditation in Kundalini Yoga contains specific practical tools that carefully and precisely support the mind and guide the body through the use of breath, mantra, mudra, and focus. The range and variety of meditation techniques in Kundalini Yoga is vast. There are meditations that reduce stress, work on addictions, increase vitality, and deconstruct the subconscious emotional and mental patterns that are held in the body and the mind, and that prevent us from fully embodying a larger way of being in our lives.

Kundalini Yoga can be practiced by everyone, regardless of age, flexibility, body shape or size, or other factors. Modifications are offered for many poses. If you can’t sit on the floor, there are chairs available for you to use. With a regular Kundalini Yoga practice, you will build your strength quickly, but in the meantime, take breaks as needed during the exercises.

Mansukh Kaur has been practicing yoga for over 30 years. In 2009 she took her first Kundalini Yoga workshop and fell in love with this style of yoga. She is now certified as a Kundalini yoga teacher. "Because of my yoga practice, I feel increased wellbeing, vitality, and happiness.  I want to share this incredible technology with others. Vitality and health is your birthright. Kundalini makes you radiant, peaceful and strong so you are able to meet life’s challenges."
