Reconnect with this special place, hear from the voices that shaped our past and those that will chart our future, and reunite with classmates and old friends over a weekend of activities, meals, and events to bring you closer to your alma mater and classmates. Let’s break trail on the next 60 years!

Come back to Craftsbury Common to kickoff Sterling’s 60th year with a weekend-long celebration of our past, present and future!

Reconnect with this special place, hear from the voices that shaped our past and those that will chart our future, and reunite with classmates and old friends over a weekend of activities, meals, and events to bring you closer to your alma mater and classmates. Let’s break trail on the next 60 years!

Schedule

Friday, August 18

6:30 pm Picnic, Bonfire, & Music Cedar Cottage.  Alumni & past faculty & staff join the current faculty & staff for a casual gathering at the President’s house, Cedar Cottage. Special musical guests Ned Houston & Don Houghton.

Saturday, August 19

(all morning events through 11:30 am and evening music & dinner at 6 pm are open to the public!)

8:30 am Community Pancake Breakfast Dunbar Dining Hall – A hearty breakfast also open to Craftsbury community members. Sterling merchandise will be available for sale in the Dunbar Foyer.

9:30 am Haybale Wagon Tour- See the draft horse team in action!

  • Walking Tour- See what’s new on campus with our Admission staff
  • Challenge Course-Get up in the air on the ropes course
  • School of the New American Farmstead Presentation- Learn about Sterling’s continuing education program

10:45 am Haybale Wagon Tour – See the draft horse team in action!

  • Walking Tour- See what’s new on campus with our Admission staff
  • Nature Walk in Virginia Russell Woods with Farley Brown ‘85, Faculty of Ecology
  • Global Field Studies Presentation Learn about Sterling’s faculty-led, immersive, and environmentally focused Global Field Studies courses.

11:45-1 pm Recognition Luncheon Dunbar Dining Hall – A summer lunch where we honor long-time faculty, staff & community members who have shaped generations of environmental stewards.  Presented by the Alumni Board.

1:30 pm Sterling Demonstration Days On Campus – This afternoon event will include competitions using crosscut saws, knot tying, fire starting, & pie eating. There will be activities for kids and ice cream, of course!

3:00 pm Expedition Stories Dunbar – Listen to and share your own Expedition stories in this alumni-led event, emceed by Sydney Flowers ‘01

4:30 pm Three Thousand Cups of Tea Common House

  • ~Film Screening with Jennifer Jordan ‘76

6:00 pm Dinner & Music On the Common

  • ~Grab dinner from your choice of food trucks, and a drink from Blackbird Bar Catering. A portion of your food truck purchase will be donated to Sterling’s Annual Fund.
  • ~Music from local string band Granite Junction starts at 7 pm. This musical event is sponsored by Sterling as part of the annual Kingdom Food & Farm Days.

9:30 am Alumni & Friends Work Project The Landing – Plant trees with faculty member Rick Thomas
